Prison Christmas Parties Volunteer Information

  1. If you are on the serving team, we will need to leave by 4:00. Please be at LRBC no later than 3:45.
  2. Bring your Photo ID. Without it, you will NOT be allowed to enter the facility and will have to remain on the bus for the duration of the program.
  3. Do not bring ANYTHING else into the prison. No smart watches, cellphones, or money. Anything that cannot be taken into the facility may be left on the bus.
  4. Please dress modestly. No Leggings, low cut tops, too tight jeans, etc.
  5. Underwire bras are not permitted into the prison
  6. No camouflage and do not wear blue jeans with a light blue shirt. That is the color of the inmates clothing. Jeans are fine, just do not pair them with a light blue shirt.
  7. We will be serving dinner, but we will NOT be eating. Please eat before you arrive. We are planning to arrive back at LRBC between 8:30 and 9 so plan accordingly.
  8. You will be given instructions by the team leaders and by officers. Please obey all instructions the first time even if they do not make sense. Never argue with the prison staff. Sometimes the officers are communicating about an issue that you cannot understand
  9. Stay with the group at all times and do not make any physical contact with an inmate beyond a handshake if, and only when, appropriate.

What to expect at shakedown:

  • When we arrive, we will have to go through shakedown. This is a security procedure to check our stuff and persons.
  • Your last convenient chance for the rest room is before you shake down.
  • Once in the shakedown area, please be aware that the officers will be giving you directions and we are to do everything they ask.
  • The shakedown process is in this approximate order:
  1. You remove everything from your pockets then take off your shoes, belt, and coat (and anything metal you have) and place it in the plastic bin provided by the prison.
  2. Hand the officer your ID when they ask you for it and receive your visitors badge. You will keep this badge until you leave and exchange it for your license in return.
  3. They will put an invisible stamp on your left hand.
  4. Pass through a metal detector. Please tell the officer if you have metal in your body such as plates, screws, or a joint replacement and where it is.
    1. If you have a medical card, for a metal knee replacement for example, please bring it with you.
    2. If you set off the metal detector, you will have to be checked with a wand to verify the metal is where you indicated.
  5. Spin in front of the single vertical pole. This checks for radio transmitters. Keep your hands down, step into the yellow box, and slowly spin around 360 degrees.
  6. You will be physically searched by being pat down. Ladies will be carried into a private area to the side and men will be searched at the desk.
  7. Only after all these steps are completed you may go to the end of the metal detector belt and retrieve your belongings.
